The sheer quantity of raw sewage being dumped into Britain’s rivers and coastal areas is a scandal and a disgrace.
As someone who doesn't even particularly relish the prospect of riding on rollercoasters, I surprised myself by agreeing to try out 'The Swoop' at Bodyflight in Clapham when I visited on Friday morning. The Swoop may sound like a harmless enough name for an attraction, but it involves a jumping off a building 110 feet up and travelling at over 35 miles per hour along a 200 feet zip wire to the ground (http://www.bodyflight.co.uk/facilities/swoop.html) . It certainly beats a cup of coffee as a morning 'pick-me-up!'
Despite a call by Lib Dem county councillor Colin Taylor for a quick decision in principle, SCC Tories have voted to defer any decision on the Lib Dem proposal to return to the more democratic Committee System. Instead the proposal will be referred to a Select Committee.

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has today launched a 'bring back our bridge' campaign for Backbarrow. The village's footbridge collapsed during the floods last autumn, and at the same time the road bridge in the village was severely damaged. Neither bridge has yet reopened.
Commenting on the report released this week by ACT (Action with Communities in Cumbria) on 'The Rural Share of Deprivation in Cumbria', local MP Tim Farron has said that radical tax proposals are vital to lift thousands of people in the South Lakes out of poverty.
