Liberal Democrat lesbian, gay, bi and trans equality organisation DELGA has set an AGM date of 20th September. The meeting, open to all paid-up members of DELGA, will be held as part of the party's Autumn Federal Conference, and will elect a team to lead DELGA and the Lib Dems LGBT campaign into an anticipated 2010 General Election.
Heather Kidd welcomed the respite from the awful summer weather as both Ludlow and Bridgnorth enjoyed bright sunny weather this week-end. Heather said "It is very difficult for tourist related businesses when we have so much rain but hopefully we can have some good weather for the rest of August to try and help them recover lost business. There is one bright spot for local businesses; the wet weather has helped the potato crop swell as well as a number of fruit crops. If we have some warm sunny weather now our potato farmers and fruit tree farmers could be in for a bumper autumn."
In a blatant act of revenge Lord Hanningfield (Leader of Essex County Council) and the Conservatives who run the county council have today (5 August) voted to remove the Liberal Democrats' one full-time support officer in a bid to gag the only opposition group. The Conservatives will continue to employ 13 full time staff to support their councillors. They will also continue to accept Special Responsibility Allowances totalling around £600,000 on top of their normal councillor allowances, all at the taxpayers' expense.
