The sheer quantity of raw sewage being dumped into Britain’s rivers and coastal areas is a scandal and a disgrace.
Despite the investment in recent years by Northumbrian Water on improving sewer capacity to protect against flooding in the Red House Farm area, there's still work to be done to satisfy local residents and councillors.

Commenting on the admission by Ed Miliband and Ed Balls that Labour would not reverse the Coalition Government's plans to reduce public spending, Lib Dem Group Leader, Cllr. David Foster said:

The borough council's consultation on the Upper High Street "development" site ends on 3rd February. Most important is that residents tell the council if they favour a foodstore fronting Upper High Street, in the centre of the site or fronting Church Street.
