Lib Dems condemn “chaotic and incompetent” budget
The sheer quantity of raw sewage being dumped into Britain’s rivers and coastal areas is a scandal and a disgrace.
I noted with interest the comments of Sandra Pell (BFP 4th May) regarding parking charges. While she is right to say that there is no such thing as free parking she has missed a fundamental point in the current car parks were constructed and paid for with taxpayers money. Many of the taxpayers who paid for that construction are now retired and on limited incomes. To dramatically increase charges in St Edmundsbury for car parking is very much a case of the Council reaping revenue in a double whammy from taxpayers. I am sure the council will point out the need for maintenance, but our car parks are automated. It is not the case that increased revenue is needed to cover increased costs. Charges are rising far too fast for that to be a viable answer and the excess revenue from car parking is published for all to see who care to look.
The newly elected group of 6 Liberal Democrat Councillors met for the first time this weekend in the wake of their election victory on May 3rd. Newly re-elected West End Councillor Fraser Macpherson today slammed the Solidarity Party for its "irresponsible actions" in flyposting dozens of utilities boxes in the West End and across the City during the recent elections to advertise their election campaign, with absolutely no permission or authority to do so.
Well the elections are over in Eastleigh for another year and after last years results when the Liberal Democrats reached a high of 34 seats out of 44 it was looking difficult to better that this year. However after the votes were counted the result was amazing and humbling that the electorate of Eastleigh increased their backing for Liberal Democrat policies. There were 14 seats contested for the Borough Council the Liberal Democrat team managed to win 13 of them and only failed to win the normally safe Labour seat of Eastleigh South by 6 votes.
Stockton Liberal Democrats had a very successful election day. In Billingham North Ward we faced very heavy campaigning by both Labour and Conservatives, but took all three seats with very comfortable majorities.
