Tax cut for millions not for millionaires: 'No tax for the £10,000 of income

South Lakes MP, Tim Farron, has call on the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, to raise the lower threshold for income tax to £10,000 in next month's budget in the latest of the Liberal Democrats efforts to rebalance the tax system to benefit the millions of people of low and middle incomes, instead of the few wealthy millionaires.

Extra help from Pupil Premium welcomed

Councillor Brenda Hindmarsh, councillor for Fawdon Ward, has welcomed the rise in the pupil premium for disadvantaged children in England's schools, which this coming school year will be worth £600 per pupil, up from £488. It already benefits Newcastle schools by over £4 million this year.

Lib Dems announce £3.8m Youth Jobs plan

Liberal Democrats have announced an amendment to the County Council's budget calling for a two year programme to support Young people on Job Seekers Allowance into 12 week paid placements with local employers.
