Government gives extra help for housing
The government has announced an extra £35 million for Council to help with changes in housing benefit. In April the Council changed housing benefit so that they no longer subsidised people with what was thought to be extra bedrooms - the so called bedroom tax. At the time the governemnt pledged £150 million over 2 years to allow Councils to help in individual cases. They have now announced an extra £35 million to help with this.

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has thanked local residents for their 'overwhelming' support for the campaign to bring Accident & Emergency services back to Westmorland General Hospital. Now over 6,000 local residents have signed the petition to bring services back to our hospital.

Farron backs Cable's plan to support trainee teachers
South Lakes MP Tim Farron has backed a plan from Business Minister Vince Cable to support people into teacher training. Grants of £20,000 will be offered to maths graduates to encourage them to teach in further education colleges.
