People Power came to Hythe Town Hall on Thursday 9th November. Over 90 members of the public attended the meeting of Hythe Town Council to consider the Nickolls Quarry development and have their say.
Before the elections last May the Council dropped proposals for car park charges in Green Street car park in Lower Sunbury. At a meeting on the 6th November the Tory-controlled Executive agreed that 5 new car parks should be charged for and that prices should be increased in all existing locations with effect from 1st April 2008.
Lib Dem PPC Tania Exley-Moore offered her support for local journalists on Monday in Scarborough Town Centre. Members of the National Union of Journalists were protesting in Scarborough about recent changes in their profession that were leading to what they saw as the driving down of standards.
In his Queen's Speech response, acting Liberal Democrat leader Vince Cable highlighted what he called a "grand coalition of ideas" between Labour and the Conservatives. It seems most people agree. A poll for The Times has found that 64% of those questioned think "there is so little difference now between Labour and the Conservatives that there is a real opportunity to make a breakthrough if the Lib Dems can develop some clear and distinctive policies".

Local MP Tim Farron is to join the Liberal Democrats' Foreign Affairs spokesman in the House of Lords William Wallace at an event in Sedbergh this evening that will look at fair trade for farmers in Britain and beyond. Mr Farron has been campaigning recently for the 'Fair Trade' brand to be extended to British farmers, and an independent market regulator to be created for the farming industry.
