The sheer quantity of raw sewage being dumped into Britain’s rivers and coastal areas is a scandal and a disgrace.
Following Conservative Councillors in Windsor and Maidenhead voting themselves a 91% rise in allowances, Conservative Councillors running Barnet Council in London have voted themselves a whopping 38% rise in allowances, whilst simultaneous imposing pay freezes on their frontline staff.
The Bedford branch of the Body Shop got in touch this week to ask if I would pop in and sign the petition backing the Body Shop's Stop Sex Trafficking of Children and Young People Campaign. I was obviously only too pleased to help, and when I popped in today I found the friendly team in there all ready to get behind the campaign, with new displays set to go up later in the day. It's a very good little store, and I'm sure they'll make sure sales of the hand cream produced to raise funds for the campaign ('Soft Hands Kind Heart') go well.

Acting Leader of Essex County Council Liberal Democrats, Cllr Theresa Higgins, has responded to the coalition budget announcement at the full council meeting. She made it clear that the Liberal Democrat group was elected as the opposition locally and would carry out that role fully and responsibly as they hold the Conservatives to account.
