Two campaigners are asking the public to contribute their experience to a key review of the Ambulance Service in Shropshire taking place next week. Cllr Heather Kidd (Chirbury and Worthen) who has campaign on Ambulance response times for a number of years, said: "The Ambulance trust has been running a system called 'Make Ready' which involves greater use of paramedics in cars and fewer ambulances. Excellent as our paramedics are there are many medical emergencies such as strokes that require rapid hospitalization and that needs and efficient Ambulance response. A paramedic cannot adminster the correct drug at the scene. "Response times in rural Shropshire have not improved and I concerned at the direction that many aspects of the Trusts service delivery is going." When it was proposed that £165k should be allocated from the Capital programme to refurbish the Hutton Community Centre at the budget setting meeting on February 12th, Lib Dem Leader Cllr David Kendall asked for the matter to be deferred to a Committee / Panel for a proper discussion and debate by members so that all the details could be properly considered. His request was turned down by the Tories. The fact that Cllr Kendall asked for a deferral did not mean that The Liberal Democrat group were against any investment in the Centre. We simply wanted to try and ensure that past mistakes were not repeated and that there were proper checks and balances in place going forward in terms of how the money was spent and how the work was done. Since the budget meeting there has been a public meeting held in Hutton to discuss the future use of the Centre with a view to it becoming a Community hub. The Leader of the Opposition at County Hall has today reacted to an OFSTED inspection of safeguarding children that identified serious failings in the safeguarding of children. OFSTED judges Northamptonshire County Council as inadequate in all 4 categories and identifies that:
