Leicestershire is to have two representatives on a national board responsible for the Environment and housing issues in Local Government. Following internal party elections, the Leader of the Liberal Democrats on Leicestershire County Council, Simon Galton, will join David Parsons on LGA's Environment and Housing Programme Board. One of the Board's key responsibilities is planning which means it will be responding to the Government's controversial proposals contained in the draft National Planning Policy Framework.

Chelmsford residents can now recycle juice cartons

Chelmsford Borough Council has now begun collecting liquid food and drinks cartons such as Tetra Pak, as part of its kerbside recycling service. Residents of Chelmsford now have the opportunity to recycle even more of their household waste.

ALTER to oppose extension of criminal law for squatting

If squatters take over your home, it is a criminal offence. Other properties are protected only by civil law. The Conservative Justice Minister Crispin Blunt has launched a consultation which proposes that squatting in all properties should be criminalized. Surely this is in our best interests?
