Liberal Democrat MPs have pledged to continue fighting against an attempt to exempt MPs from the Freedom of Information Act. Liberal Democrat candidate in Park Ward, Robin Lawrence, has pledged that if he is elected he will put a motion to Wolverhampton City Council calling for Compton Park to be saved. Robin's motion will call for £600,000 to be transferred from the Council's reserves to fund the refurbishment and continued running costs of Compton Park. This would mean it would then stay open.
Speaking ahead of the European Parliament debate on homophobia in Europe (Wednesday 25th April 2007 ), London's Liberal Democrat MEP and member of the Gay and Lesbian Rights Intergroup Baroness Sarah Ludford has lambasted the Polish government's record on LGBT rights. Baroness Ludford said, "MEPs are likely to be highly critical of the Polish government in our debate and resolution on homophobia in Europe since the alarmingly homophobic stance of the Polish authorities is in blatant contradiction to the human rights obligations of EU membership."
