Liberal Democrats take election pledges into Government

On the 7th May 2010 after the election was over two things were clear, one, Labour had lost and two, as no party had passed the 326 wining mark so no party had won it either. And it meant that the Liberal Democrats were placed by the public's decision in the General Election of trying form a working relationship with one of the other parties to form a stable government.

Conservatives reject Grit Bin proposals

Following the problems caused by the severe weather last winter, which left residents stranded at home and many parts of the County isolated, Liberal Democrat County Councillors called upon Surrey County Council to prepare adequately to cope with ice and snow next winter. However despite their proposals receiving support from two cross-party scrutiny committees, the Conservative administration has rejected them.

Lib Dems Choose New Leader at County Hall

Liberal Democrats at County Hall have elected County Councillor Geoff Webber as their new leader. He takes over from County Councillor Bill Hoult, who has led the 11-strong group since 2006. However, Bill is soon to become Mayor of Harrogate, and wishes to concentrate on that role.

Lynne Featherstone appointed Under-Secretary of State for Equalities

Lynne Featherstone, formerly the Liberal Democrat Shadow Minister for Equality, has been appointed a Home Office minister. She will be the Under-Secretary of State for Equalities in the new coalition Government. Lynne has a superb record on equalities. She lead on the Equality Bill with Lib Dem amendments for trans equality and on removing the blood donation ban, which were rejected by Labour.
