Old people in South Wiltshire get drunk and fall over
Wiltshire Council has published a Falls and Bone Health strategy which seeks to minimise the harm caused by falls and bone diseases amongst older people. Falling is an increasing problem, with an average of seven emergency hospital admissions per day in the county. Up to one in three over-65s will fall in the course of a year, and apart from the direct injuries falls can lead to other physical or psychological problems.

Tim calls for more services to be brought back to Westmorland General
South Lakes MP Tim Farron has today written to the Interim Chief Executive of University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT) Eric Morton asking him to use the current review of the hospital trust to bring back services to Westmorland General.

Successful Liberal Democrat Local Government Conference in Bedford
Leading Liberal Democrat Councillors from all over England gathered on Saturday at the Universityof Bedford for a conference organised by the Local Government Association. The keynote speaker was the Deputy Prime Minister Rt Hon Nick Clegg MP who had recently acquitted himself so well at the Leverson Inquiry. Nick arrived fresh from NOT supporting our Conservative coalition partners in the Commons debate on the behaviour of the much-entangled (with the Murdoch Empire) Culture Secretary, Jeremy Hunt - who was "in it together" with David Cameron, who was "in it together" with Rebekah Wade...and so on.

South Lakes Olympic torch celebrations are a tribute to Brendan Jameson - says Farron
Local MP Tim Farron will join the celebrations this Thursday as the Olympic torch makes its way through the South Lakes. Tim is hailing the celebrations as a tribute to the work of council Leader Brendan Jameson, who died in March and who worked so hard to ensure that South Lakes got not just one but five torch stops. The torch is to arrive in Grasmere at 5.30pm and will travel to Ambleside and Bowness-on-Windermere before continuing its journey through Kendal and Milnthorpe on Friday.
