Birmingham politician agrees with Warwickshire and Coventry Liberal Democrats
Writing on his blog site John Hemming, who until May was the MP for the Birmingham Yardley constituency, backs plans for the Coventry and Warwickshire local authorities to work together. He writes "Warwickshire curls around Coventry and is clearly in the economic city region. It is only people who reside in the Whitehall that believe that Coventry is best placed with Greater Birmingham. City Regions work as units of devolution if they have essentially economic city regions of a city and its travel to work area. Hence Lichfield, Bromsgrove, Kidderminster, Tamworth and Redditch fit comfortably into the wider Greater Birmingham area, but Coventry does not. It always caused tensions in the past and will continue to undermine the common interest of a Greater Birmingham City Region if it is continued".

Summer rail disruption - it's over.
Here's a statement from Network Rail: "We have reached the end of the six week project to start preparing the railway line for electrification. We successfully handed back the line, on time, at 05:15 am, on 1 September to First Great Western. The first train to go through Box Tunnel left Bristol Temple Meads at 5:29 am exactly on time. Over the last six weeks, our 'orange army' did a fantastic job, lowering and replacing 10km of track in Bath and the surrounding area in preparation for the arrival of a new fleet of longer, faster, quieter and greener electric trains. As part of the £50m project, our team also installed 11 new switches and crossings at Bathampton Junction, which enable trains to move from one track to another. This project is the largest we have carried out to date and is the biggest on the Western route for 40 years. It has been a complex job, given the historic architecture and infrastructure we worked with, but we completed the work on time ready to re-open the line to passengers on the mo
