Lib Dems condemn “chaotic and incompetent” budget
The sheer quantity of raw sewage being dumped into Britain’s rivers and coastal areas is a scandal and a disgrace.
This preview of the first English [Liberal Democrats] Council Executive (ECE) of 2016 provides a useful description of the issues discussed in January. Put out the bunting! I wrote a short explanation of what the body does just over a year ago. The first part of the meeting contains the usual reports from officers of the English Party (Chair, Treasurer, Vice-Chair and Candidates) and its reps to other party bodies (Federal Executive (FE), Federal Conference Committee (FCC), Federal Policy Committee (FPC) and the G8 local election grants scheme), although within these there are sometimes substantive issues that need discussion. Some of these officers also chair committees which also report back, such as the Vice-Chair chairing the Regional Parties' Committee and Treasurer chairing the English Finance and Administration Committee. I have included a section on the membership of the committee and various other elected reps at the bottom of this post. The second part of the meeting involves reports on particular a

Rochdale Lib Dem Leader, Councillor Andy Kelly, has slammed Metrolink bosses after morning of chaos on the trams. Andy, a transport campaigner, says he received many complaints from affected residents. Rochdale commuters had to use their Metrolink ticket to catch replacement buses or pay to catch the train. Metrolink bosses blamed a mixture of freezing fog and ice forming on the overhead wires causing a fault in Derker. They have apologised. Councillor Kelly said: "No-one denies that it was 'coldish' this morning - it shouldn't have been cold enough to cause such misery for local people You'd have thought that a state-of-the-art transport system could have withstood this morning's weather. I welcome the apology and explanation from transport bosses but would like to know what they are planning to do to avoid the system grinding to a halt again. That requires a full investigation and that needs doing now. The weather could be a lot worse so we need to do everything we can to ensure that we are prepared. It's n
An astonishing 25 post boxes were nicked in the 'OL' post code alone in the last year (that's Milnrow, Rochdale, Littleborough, Ashton-under-Lyne, Bacup, Heywood, Oldham and Todmorden). Residents are up in arms at the figures unearthed by the Rochdale Liberal Democrats. One estate in Milnrow has been waiting 10 months for a replacement. Royal Mail have confirmed that residents on the Silver Hill Estate in Milnrow's wait for a Post Box continues. The old one was stolen by thieves ten months ago. Local Councillor Andy Kelly has been working with local residents to persuade Royal Mail to replace it. Royal Mail, who are suffering a spate of the Post Box robberies have admitted they are no nearer to sorting it out. Andy said: "Residents on the Silver Hill Estate continue to be frustrated over their lack of a post box. Their old one, the only one on the estate, was nicked months ago. The Royal Mail have still not replaced it despite pleas from local residents including ourselves. I have been in regular touch with R
Statistics referenced by the House of Commons suggest that 0.26 percent of total UK child benefit claims are paid to EU migrants whose children live in another EU member state. 0.09 percent of all child tax credit claims are made by families with children residing in another EU member state, according to a blog by UURIINTUYA BATSAIKHAN in Breugel: http://bruegel.org/2016/02/child-benefits-for-eu-migrants-in-the-uk/
