Consider the following: The UK National debt is now £1.56 trillion. The value of state owned assets is £1.2 trillion most of which is in infrastructure and therefore not saleable. By contrast, the aggregate total wealth of all private households in Great Britain is around £9.5 trillion with a debt of £7.0 trillion. If this was a balance sheet of UK PLC with 'social holding' and 'private holding' companies the creditors would either call for 'parent company guarantees' (the private asset holders) or declare the state holding company bankrupt.
