This morning the Lib Dems are celebrating after they won over 60% of the vote in yesterdays Bowness North by-election. Local family man Colin Jones has been elected onto South Lakeland District Council.
South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed comments by the Chair of the independent inquiry into failings at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay to Health Service Journal, sayingthat he wants the freedom to investigate all bodies involved - potentially including health regulators.
Essex Fire & Rescue is offering Fire Safety visits to local groups and individuals. They can speak to groups on home fire safety and also carry out a home fire safety visit to an individual's home.
The number of households where no one is in work has fallen to an alltime low. Figures released by the Office of National Statistics shows that there are 3.5 million housholds where nobody is in work. This represents 17% of all housholds and compares with a peak of 20.9% in the 1990's.. During the last year the number of households without anyone working fell by 182,000.
Local Lib Dem MP Gordon Birtwistle, MP for Burnley, voted against the government on Thursday night. Nine Liberal Democrat MPs opposed the government's motion on using force in response to the gas attackson civilians last week. Other MPs who voted against the government were Hazel Grove MP, Andrew Stunell and former Education Minister, Sarah Teather.
