Lib Dem councillors retire: thank you

Two long-serving Lib Dems retired from the district council in May. Derek Jacobs served residents of Chipping Ongar, Greensted & Marden Ash for 26 years. Peter Spencer represented Grange Hill and then Buckhurst Hill East for 15 years.

This weekend, we will be at Manchester Pride, one of the biggest events in the UK, both marching on the parade and at a stall in the expo, highlighting the work on homophobia, biphobia and transphobia in sport from local MP John Leech.

More than 1,400 happy couples have tied the knot since same-sex marriage came into effect in March. According to figures released today by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), 56% of the newlyweds were female couples and 44% were male.

New figures released by charitable donation website JustGiving has revealed Bedford to be the UK's most generous town, based on donations made via the site. JustGiving released the figures after calculating the total size of donations from the UK's towns, by postcode, then accounting for the number of donors relative to the population size.

Poor doors? If you’re disabled, you’ll know society’s segregation doesn’t end there

As I stared at the steps leading to the restaurant, I ran through a mental list of the summer. The lift that was too small for a wheelchair, the "accessible" spa hotel that had a spa that was not accessible, the terrace ramp that led nowhere. The polite but awkward apologies from the unfortunate staff member always followed and I always played my part politely, awkwardly accepting them.
