Hinckley Liberal Democrat Councillors are campaigning for a local landmark to be saved. The "Big Pit", a popular local water feature which is off Ashby Road, Hinckley, is threatened with being filled in and houses being built there.. The planning application for this has gone into Leicestershire County Council. Local Lib Dem Councillors have written in to oppose the plans. Hinckley Lib Dem County Councillor Michael Mullaney added, "I hope as many residents as possible will sign our petition online at www.bosworthlibdems.org.uk to save the "Big Pit" from development.
