Rochdale MP - Paul Rowen has launched an Online Poll to help identify who Rochdale people would like to see as the next Leader of the Liberal Democrats. Paul said, "I think that as MP it is vital to listen to Constituents over who they believe would be the best Leader of our Party. Charles Kennedy was an excellent Leader who took great interest in Rochdale - I will be asking each candidate what they will be doing for areas such as Rochdale and will certainly take notice of the results of my poll. At a meeting of Rochdale Township (Wednesday, 11th January) the Labour Leader of Rochdale Council threw the whole budget process into chaos by admitting large parts of the proposed cuts were not feasible. He also revealed, that despite his Labour Group working with the Conservatives for many months on the budget - large sections of his group were against many of the proposals. Councillor Brett described the potential £2million cuts in Adult Services as "unrealistic".
Rochdale Liberal Democrats are backing staff and visitors in the campaign against closing Touchstones on Sundays and Mondays. The Liberal Democrats, the largest group on the Council will be opposing the proposed change. A change that will save the Council money in the tight budget.
Paul Rowen MP today slammed Tony Blair and previous Conservative Governments for failing to tackle the growing NHS dentistry crisis during a debate in Westminster Hall. Paul used the recent example of the closure of Balderstone Dental Practice in Rochdale to slam more broken promises from a Government lurching from one false promise to another.
Rochdale's MP Paul Rowen has reacted angrily after it emerged that the town's last NHS Dental Practice in Rochdale is to go private. Balderstone Dental Practice on Balderstone Road will no longer treat NHS Patients-only from April 1st 2006. Hundreds of residents across Rochdale Borough received the New Year Letter that they were dreading when the letter from the practice confirmed many residents fears. Paul will be raising this issue in Parliament this Tuesday in a debate on the new NHS Contracts.
Rochdale MP Paul Rowen is being consulted on his views on Incapacity Benefit by the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, after it was revealed that Rochdale has one of the highest number of people on Incapacity Benefit in the UK.
