The Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) - the European group which includes the Liberal Democrats - is organising the first European Civil Liberties Day tomorrow April 15th in the European Parliament. The event is intended to launch a declaration constituting a European Civil Liberties Movement (ECLM) similar to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
CAMPAIGNERS have launched a petition to protest against rising car parking charges in Brentwood.
A protest has been organised in London by the Gay Activists Alliance (GAAI), Iraqi LGBT and Queer Youth UK over the reported planned execution of Iraqi LGBT citizens. The protest will take place outside the Home Office Direct Communications Unit, 2 Marsham Street, London SW1P 4DF, from 12 noon this Thursday, 16 April.
Shepway Councillor Tim Prater has written to the Highways Agency this afternoon to ask why the new "moveable barrier" between junctions 11 and 12 of the M20 has not been deployed, despite Phase 2 of Operation Stack being implemented.
Shepway District Council is consulting local businesses and local residents on the proposed introduction of a Controlled Parking Zone in Folkestone West. The proposals would introduce paid parking permits costing £25 per car for households in affected areas near Folkestone West train station.
