Farron trains hard for charity triathlon

Local MP Tim Farron is in the midst of a tough training regime to make sure he is in good condition for his charity triathlon a week next Saturday. Tim has organised this triathlon in aid of the North West Cancer Research Fund and New Holehird and is looking for sponsors. Tim's triathlon will see him travel approximately 30 miles down his constituency by foot, boat and bike.

Lib Dems force College Travel Reprieve

Following pressure from the Liberal Democrats on Surrey County Council, proposals to abandon the Student Fare Card Scheme have been withdrawn. The cards allow Surrey students up to 18 to travel at the under-16 rate. They remove a barrier to youngsters travelling to the course that suits them best, keeping them in the education system.

Lib Dem Leader announces new Shadow Cabinet

Sir Menzies Campbell has announced his first Shadow Cabinet. He said: "I'm delighted to be able to unveil these appointments. We have the brightest political generation in our ranks and I'm relishing the opportunity to lead them. I have said we need to challenge orthodoxy. We need new thinking and fresh ideas. In a whole range of areas - the environment, civil liberties, Britain's place on the international stage and tackling poverty - only the Liberal Democrats can provide the fresh thinking we need."
