Railways in Wiltshire- where are they going?

Wiltshire Council is being asked to take an interest in the future of the county's rail services as the current franchise comes up for re-allocation. By getting involved with the process, rather than just leaving it to the government to sort out with the franchise bidders, there is scope for real improvements in the county including the re-opening of Corsham station. Here's a motion which will be considered at the WC meeting on November 7th in Salisbury. It's been submitted by Cllrs Jon Hubbard (Melksham South) and Howard Marshall (Calne Central)

Basingstoke - Minerals and Wast Processing planned for Railway Sidings

On Monday 7th November the County Council published the final draft of its Mineral and Waste Plan. This plan proposes to set up a minerals and waste processing depot at Basingstoke's railway sidings, just north of Churchill Way West. Road access is likely to be via north east of the site through the industrial estate railway, possibly onto Kingsclere Road.

Last Saturday, 5th November the Liberal Democrats' Regional Conference passed Windsor Lib Dems' "Homes for Heroes" policy, which calls on the Government adopt the social housing, "Decent Homes Standard" as a minimum guarantee for the quality of armed forces married quarters.

Translators spark Codford Planning Battle

An attempt by "Babylon Translations Ltd" to construct a building in open countryside on the edge of Codford came to the planning committee on November 9th. Councillors voted to refuse the scheme on the grounds of its intrusion into the open countryside. The application was opposed by the Parish Council and neighbours, but Wiltshire Council planning officers had recommended permission.
