Deputy Prime Minister and Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg has written to party members ahead of today's Comprehensive Spending Review. In his message he says
Today, within the Strategic Defence Review, the Coalition Government announced that there will be no final decision on the like-for-like replacement of Trident during this parliament. This is a significant victory for Lib Dem campaigners and a fantastic example of what our Ministers can and do achieve in government.
Woking Lib Dems welcome the Coalition Government's new deal on council housing. Under this new deal, local councils like Woking will be allowed to keep their tenants' rents - and the money they make from selling council houses - instead of having to hand over much of this cash to Whitehall. It could free up funds for repairs and, possibly, new council houses.
Commenting on reports that the replacement of Britain's Trident nuclear missile system is to be delayed by five years, former leader of the Liberal Democrats Sir Menzies Campbell said:
