While working in the area Councillor Robin Lawrence met with local residents to listen to their concerns.
Proposals for better control of payments for road repairs made by their Local Committee for Epsom & Ewell back in July, were this week formally accepted at Surrey County Council's first Cabinet Member "decision taking" sessions. County Cllr Colin Taylor, this year's chairman of the Local Committee, attended and welcomed the response from the Cabinet Member for Transport.
The Residents Association councillors have voted unanimously to once again veto acceptance of the government's "Free Swimming" scheme for under 16's and over 60's as far as Epsom & Ewell is concerned.
The area on the land beside Beacon Cemetery going up to Beacon Street is a haunt for muggers for people using the path after nightfall. The same bushes that hide the muggers at night allow cover for drug users during the day. Springvale Lib Dem councillor, Richard Whitehouse was approached by concerned residents and others that found the path too steep and uneven to use in any case. Cllr Whitehouse said," Wolverhampton City Council has signed up to the 'Working Neighbourhoods Fund' and following my enquiries it is planned to use that fund to provide 'Land Apprentices', that is, young people who wish to develop skills in landscape work."
Rochdale Borough Council is currently undergoing negotiations with local business owners in a bid to introduce employee discounts in town centre shops.
