NO 2 ID CARDS... Lib Dems get local support for ID Card Opposition

Local Liberal Democrats met widespread support for their opposition to ID cards and the national identity database, in a town centre petition harvesting campaign. Many signed petitions against an extravagant scheme which, according to Parliamentary Spokesman Stephen Robinson, "will cost citizens £100s and do nothing to cut crime, terrorism or illegal immigration."

Government wrong to attempt to water down emissions trading system

The European Court will today hear the UK's legal challenge against the European Commission and their rejection of the UK's proposed amendment to reduce the total quantity of allowances in the UK's National Allocation Plan (NAP) for Phase 1 (2005-2007) of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS).

"No" to Orange Mast in Court Rec.

After a year of uncertainty, the Council has finally decided not to allow a controversial 20 metre mobile phone mast to be built in Court Recreation ground. Cllr Nigel Pavey addressed the Telecommunications Masts Sub-Committee on behalf of local residents, when the Sub-Committee debated the results of the recent consultation. In view of the widespread public opposition to the use of this park for such a purpose, due to fears about possible health hazards and the proximity of a children's playground, they reversed their previous decision to give the go ahead, subject to planning permission.
