WEALTHY TO LOSE TAX BREAKS ON SECOND HOMES

Councillor Sarah Cross has welcomed proposals from the coalition government to remove tax breaks for second home-owners. Currently, Councils are legally obliged to give a second home council tax discount of up to 50%. The Government plan to end this benefit which will affect nearly a quarter of a million people, forcing them to pay hundreds of pounds more a year in council tax.

The Council has been approached on a number of occasions asking for more closed circuit television cameras to be installed.

WATER BUTT OFFER FROM COUNCIL DURING DROUGHT

The Environment Agency has declared that most of the South East and Eastern England is in an official state of drought after 15 months of below average rainfall. Around 25% of a household's energy bill is from heating the water that is used during showering, washing clothes and dishwashing, so by using water more efficiently and cutting out waste and unnecessary use, you can conserve water, save energy and money on your bills.

New sports facilities for Andrews Park, Chelmsford

A multi-sport hard court will be provided for local people in Andrews Park, north Chelmsford as part of a lasting Olympic legacy. Chelmsford Council made a successful funding bid to Sport England for the provision of two "Adizones".
