Disabled girl in nursery dispute
A woman has withdrawn her disabled three-year-old daughter from a council nursery in Leicestershire because she wants a place nearer home. Naomi Spencer wants her daughter Chloe to go to Oakham in Rutland, only eight miles from their Melton Mowbray house. But council officers insist Chloe, who has cerebral palsy, should go to their specialist nursery 20 miles away.

Blind football pair claim awards
England blind football duo Ajmal Ahmed and Tony Larkin were among the award winners at the npower Disability Sport Awards Evening in Birmingham. Ahmed won the Male Sports Personality award with Larkin taking the Coach of the Year honour.

Improved West End Play Areas Opened
Today the upgraded the play area at Moorgreen Recreation Ground and Hatch Grange were opened. The total cost of the improved work was paid for by the Parish Council aided by £28,000 grant from Eastleigh Borough Council's Local Area Committee for Hedge End, West End and Botley.

Robinson takes Chelmsford's crime campaign to the top
Hundreds of people have backed the Chelmsford Lib Dem "We Can Cut Crime" campaign, by posting back the reply cards that have been distributed right across the area. Parliamentary Candidate Stephen Robinson has reported on the successful campaign to Lib Dem Shadow Home Secretary Nick Clegg MP.

"Big Database" State off to a faltering start (thankfully)
This is the week when the government was due to start collecting the personal biometric data that will form part of the national identity database. The data will be collected at one of 69 interrogation centres around the country, including one in Chelmsford. Local Lib Dem parliamentary candidate Stephen Robinson objected to the planning application for the centre, and attended a meeting last night, addressed by the General Secretary of the No2ID campaign.
