Surrey County Council will exhibit plans for Epsom town centre in the Ebbisham Centre on 18, 19 and 21 March. They include allowing traffic from West Street to turn right into South Street, which would become two-way.
Over 1 million new jobs have been created and unemployment is far lower than in 2010. Many new jobs are in the green technology sector and the creative industries, giving real opportunities to our young people. 1.2 million apprenticeships have started and the economy is growing. There is more to do and we shall legislate to make zero hours contracts tied to one employer a thing of the past. Workers have a right to know how much they will earn as a minimum each week/month. We shall continue to enforce payment of the minimum wage by all employers and to push for a universal living wage.
In the wake of the horrendous failures in child protection in Rotherham and Oxfordshire, I am seriously concerned about the strength of our child protection policy after a presentation by council officers recently. The problem in Shropshire is that we have a large number of small, privately run children's homes. Although all are registered with OFSTED, its pretty clear that many are not on the Council's radar. Although I'm sure most are professionally run much of the recent cases of abuse have centres on children in care homes. Where do these sit with child protection?
