Durrington Village Saved from Building Blight
A campaign led by Durrington Councillor Graham Wright has paid handsome dividends. The land to the west of the A345 at Durrington was earmarked for the building of 540 new Army Houses. Cllr Wright, helped by a local working group, the Town Council, MP Claire Perry and over 900 residents, lobbied the MoD and the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), to listen to reason. After the second consultation, they have finally made a 'common sense' decision to exclude the large 85 acres of farmland that sits adjacent to the village from their plans for new service family accommodation.

Mayor Dave Writes: Opening up Community Facilities... For the Community!
In his latest monthly article in the Times and Citizen, Mayor Dave Hodgson has written of the increased range of opportunities to enjoy a number of community facilities in parks and open spaces in the Borough this summer. These include the Pavilion cafe building in Bedford Park, where the brand new 'Window At the Park' will be opened formally on Saturday monring at 10am. Slashing of Wiltshire youth services confirmed.
Wiltshire Council's proposal to spend a lot less money on youth services in the county generated a strong reaction from young people themselves and from opposition councillors. The decision drastically to reduce provision for young people was made at a special cabinet meeting this afternoon at 4pm at County Hall. About a hundred young people turned up to oppose the scheme, with many speaking to emphase how much they value the current service and the front-line youth workers who operate it.

Wiltshire comes top on change cheat chargesheet
According to the Daily Mirror Wiltshire Council has made more money than any other council in the country by not giving change from machines in pay and display car parks - £730,000 over a three year period, well ahead of Tunbridge Wells who got the silver medal with a rip-off rate of £429,000.
