Winter and Summer weather!

On the problematic side, County Coucillor Keith Morgan has been engaged with the County on potholes and re-surfacing following the severe winter 2011/12 on Moorland View and Greenways; flood damage to tarmac surrounding at least two manhole covers has required serious correction and more enquiries than usual have been received concerning trees and both public and private land, their removal and root damage to pavements now that the trees are getting much older.

Liberal Democrat activity

Over the last year County Cllr. Keith Morgan has been activate in casework and attending meeting at County Hall. Specifically, he opposed the Youth Club closures proposed by the controlling group. Locally, he has supported several local projects with the County Council leadership fund. The very successful Chatsworth Road Festival (Oct. 2011) attracted £500 towards its publicity this year; Cruse Bereavement Group also received £400 to enable its development and visiting: other beneficiaries have included the Friends of Walton Dam and the Robinson Bowling Club. These are all social support networks which contribute towards the improvement of life in our area.

Hipper Corridor Regeneration Survey

The summer and autumn have brought mixed fortunes for the Walton & West Division. At last the plans for the regeneration of the Hipper Corridor have been lodged with the Council. Local Liberal Democrats contacted some 2,000 households immediately affected by the development to elicit some measure of local opinion.

The Independent: Nick Clegg's conference speech: 'Tax Wealth, Not Work' should have been the slogan, but it should be "Tax rents not work" but the public don't understand the economic meaning of rent. So ALTER finds itself using the slogan "Tax wealth not work" on one of our banners even though Land Value Taxation is not a wealth tax. Buildings and other wealth go untaxed under a tax system based on rents. There is no need to tax wealth if you are taxing economic rent or unearned increment as Churchill called it. By taxing rent you tax the unearned accumulation of wealth, as much of the wealth of the very wealthy comes from rents not enterprise. For every entrepreneur like Dyson there are probably 100 or more that got much of their wealth from rent. We also use "Tax land not work", but that makes it look like its the only form of Rent we are proposing to tax or that the burden of the tax falls on green fields, when we propose little or no revenue would come from this source.
