Liberal Democrats pledge to continue fight to protect Freedom of Information

Liberal Democrat MPs have pledged to continue fighting against an attempt to exempt MPs from the Freedom of Information Act. The private member's bill tabled by Conservative MP David Maclean was prevented from passing in the Commons last week, thanks to the efforts of Simon Hughes MP and Norman Baker MP, but it now looks set to return to the Commons for debate to continue this Friday.

Robin Lawrence will battle for Compton Park Centre Cash

Liberal Democrat candidate in Park Ward, Robin Lawrence, has pledged that if he is elected he will put a motion to Wolverhampton City Council calling for Compton Park to be saved. Robin's motion will call for £600,000 to be transferred from the Council's reserves to fund the refurbishment and continued running costs of Compton Park. This would mean it would then stay open.

MEP lambasts Polish government's homophobic record

Speaking ahead of the European Parliament debate on homophobia in Europe (Wednesday 25th April 2007 ), London's Liberal Democrat MEP and member of the Gay and Lesbian Rights Intergroup Baroness Sarah Ludford has lambasted the Polish government's record on LGBT rights. Baroness Ludford said, "MEPs are likely to be highly critical of the Polish government in our debate and resolution on homophobia in Europe since the alarmingly homophobic stance of the Polish authorities is in blatant contradiction to the human rights obligations of EU membership."

More Control On Mobile Masts

Paul Holmes, Liberal Democrat MP for Chesterfield is supporting a new Bill that aims to bring mobile phone masts under strict planning control and bring in the 'precautionary principle', giving extra safeguards for schools, homes, and medical facilities from the risk of excessive radiation.
