Traditional light bulbs could taken off the shelves of UK shops by 2009 and replaced with energy-saving alternatives. Park Ward candidate Robin Lawrence welcomed this progress and said "Modern bulbs last longer and cost less overall. Energy-saving lighting products have an average lifespan of up to 12 times longer than traditional products with modern bulbs saving up to £9 a year on electricity bills".
Bill Newton Dunn, MEP for the East Midlands, was the main speaker at the Oakham Public Meeting on Thurs Nov 2nd. There was a lively discussion on the challenges ahead for Europe such as climate change and cross-border crime. Bill had had a great success last week in encouraging the European Parliament to vote for a formal study on the need for a federal police force for Europe.
