The sheer quantity of raw sewage being dumped into Britain’s rivers and coastal areas is a scandal and a disgrace.
Following the UNICEF report showing the UK at the bottom of a league table for child well-being, Dundee LibDems have today (Thursday 15th February) given their support to calls by Scottish Liberal Democrat Leader Nicol Stephen MSP for a major shift in attitude towards young people.
The Labour government have decided to take away £4.5 million from Blackburn with Darwen Council and give to richer areas who do not deserve it. Liberal Democrat Leader on the Council, David Foster said, "The government have decided that because we are a deprived area we need more money. This means taking money away from "wealthier" areas. The government want to cushion the blow to these areas and therefore have decided not to give us the full amount and give some of it back to these richer areas. Local Council Tax Payers are having to foot the bill. If the government paid us what they say we need we could cut the Council Tax by 10%"
Park Ward residents are frustrated by the Labour controlled council's lack of action on plastic recycling. In a huge response to the Liberal Democrat's environment survey carried out in January residents told Shadow Environment Minister Chris Huhne MP and Park Ward Candidate Robin Lawrence that it was high time Wolverhampton Council began collecting plastic waste as part of the kerbside waste service. In conversation with Enterprise, the company running Wolverhampton's waste collection service, Robin Lawrence was told that residents may have to wait for a year or two before kerbside collection of plastic begins. Shocked by this delay Robin Lawrence told Focus "The Labour council really are dragging their feet on this issue. More than 90% of the residents who took part in our survey are demanding kerbside collection of plastic now. Currently I recycle my plastic waste at work in Cannock. If neighbouring authorities can organise plastic recycling why can't Wolverhampton?"
