Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate Stephen Robinson has challenged our MP to support a Lib Dem bill to bring mobile phone masts under strict planning control. He said, "The Conservatives did a deal with the phone companies when they were in government to cut planning controls for masts. It is easier to get planning permission for a mast than it is for a front porch. This is an alarming situation and needs to be addressed."
This Friday 18 March, Liberal Democrat Chief Whip, Andrew Stunell MP will present a bill to Parliament that aims to bring mobile phone masts under strict planning control and bring in the 'precautionary principle', giving extra safeguards for schools, homes, and medical facilities from the risk of excessive radiation.
Ahead of the second anniversary of the start of the conflict this Friday, Parmjit Singh Gill, MP for Leicester South, today called for British troops to be withdrawn from Iraq by the time of the United Nations expiry date set by the last mandate. The mandate expires by the end of December 2005.
