Liz Lynne and Euro MPs press EU Commissioner Lazlo Andor on elder abuse and long term care
Lib Dem Euro MP Liz Lynne has demanded more action to protect elderly people in long term care at a cross party meeting between MEPs and Employment and Social Affairs Commissioner Laszlo Andor in Brussels. The purpose of the meeting of the Parliament's Age Intergroup yesterday was for MEPs with a special interest on age issues to quiz the Commissioner directly about issues affecting older people across the European Union.

PCT quizzed on respite care money
In 2008 the government announced it was doubling the amount of money to fund rest periods for long-term carers, £50m was to be spent in 2010 and £100m next year. Two charities, the Princess Royal Trust for Carers and the Crossroads Care Charity, have recently analysed FOI (freedom of information) requests from 100 PCTs and claim only 23% of this years money has been used to increase services for carers.

Maiti Nepal: Campaign to stop sex trafficking of Nepalese children
At a busy meeting at the Hawkinge Community Centre, the inspiring Chairperson of Nepalese Charity Maiti Nepal, Anuradha Koirala, explained their work and opened our eyes and our hearts to the terrible situation in Nepal where children are exploited for sex. She helped those present to understand some of the issues and difficulties.
