Heather Kidd, Councillor for Chirbury and Worthen is calling on Shropshire Council to think again about charging preschools across the county for advice, a move which may put many at risk. Heather explained: "Preschools do an excellent job. They prepare children for school and assess any special needs that they might have. They also help the local economy by providing jobs and allowing parents to work. I have four preschools in my ward - Chirbury, Worthen, Hope and Stiperstones, and they are highly valued by our communities. Across Shropshire there must be upwards of 100 preschools. "However they are run by charitable committees on a very limited budget, most of their cash being raised by fundraising in the communities in which they operate. The Council proposes, from 1st April, to levy a charge of £144 for advice sessions on key issues (they are subject to OFSTEAD inspections). This may push many to the financial brink. Stroke Services. It comes as no surprise to hear that this service will be staying at Princess Royal Hospital in Telford at least for now!! As I have said before I strongly suspect that this the thin end of the wedge. Once stroke care is moved permanently from Shrewsbury then a proper Accident and Emergency unit ceases to be viable in the longer term. We must be vigilant to ensure we don't lose our A+E by stealth!
