It is with a mixture of joy and relief that I can report that, as of last night, St Mary's Street is fully reopened ahead of schedule, following the urgent repair works. The works started on 3rd October after a ground radar survey found the road was in serious danger of collapse due to a complete lack of drainage on one side of the road, which was only resurfaced four years ago by the former County Council.
Formal notices have now been published advertising details of proposed new and revised yellow line waiting restrictions, controlled parking zones and residents parking bays. The consultation is for 4 weeks ending on 22 December.
Following the announcement that the County Council is sticking to its planned freeze of Council Tax for 2012/13, the Liberal Democrats are calling for clarification of what the extra money from the government will be used for. Leicestershire Liberal Democrats believe that the extra money should be used to invest in the local economy, help support job creation (especially youth unemployment), and encourage projects which benefit local communities
