Lib Dem Councillor and well known Transport campaigner David Kendall has launched a campaign to save the 73 evening bus service which operates between Pilgrims Hatch and Warley via Brentwood High Street. The service, which has a County Council supported contract, is under threat of being axed because of low passenger numbers and a final decision on it's future is due to be made in the New Year. David is urging bus users and residents on the route who are concerned about losing this service to sign the Lib Dems online petition, and e-mail the County Council at local.busteam@essex.gov.uk or telephone 0845 6037631 to let the County Council know their views and how the axing of this service would affect them. The current year's car park charge freeze was the first seen in Bedford for many years, and like this new boost for our town centre was delivered despite rising inflation and an extremely tough financial situation facing the Council. Inflation is now of course at nearly 6% and the financial pressures on the Council are unprecedented, but we feel it's important to support shoppers and help boost the vitality of Bedford town centre by proposing a freeze for charges in the council's car parks and for on-street parking.
